Camp Lacks Hot Showers, But Not Passion for Dean

Camera Works: Audio and Video (washingtonpost.com): “In a high-tech era where food can be ordered from the comfort of your DVD-loaded SUV, volunteers for the Dean campaign are taking sacrifice to new levels. At Camp Wesley Woods, about 20 miles south of Des Moines, you can find up to 100 volunteers on any given day hanging out in a cabin with no indoor plumbing. And you can forget about DVDs.
The camp is one of more than a dozen across Iowa rented by the Dean campaign to house about 1,500 out-of-state volunteers. They are retirees and college students and are pushing for their candidate in the days leading up to the Jan. 19 Iowa Caucuses.
St. Louis native Steve Cann found himself with the Dean campaign after being laid off from his job as an electrician. University of Oregon student Kyla Coy was drawn to Dean by his directness on issues of war and race, among other things. Oberlin student Cecilia Hayford considers him the only candidate that doesn’t seem ‘fake.’ Bill Endicott, a former aide in the Clinton White House, supports Dean because of his stand against the war in Iraq. They are all willing to shed creature comforts for their candidate.”
