Dean building support one click at a time

Dean building support one click at a time: “Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean has accomplished what many wannabe Democratic presidential candidates only fantasized about: building a powerful groundswell of support that has thrust him into the lead in a crowded field.
He did it with the simple tools of charisma, common sense and the Internet.
Unknown to the Dean campaign, in early February a handful of disenfranchised voters, independents and mainstream Democrats from the Chicago area visited an obscure Web site called Meetup.com. They wanted to find like-minded people who were interested in the Dean campaign.
Within weeks, their informal meetings grew to hundreds of supporters.
Soon, the Dean campaign signed up for Meetup.com’s technology platform, and Kevin Conlon, state chairman for the Dean campaign from the politically savvy consulting firm of Wilhelm & Conlon, helped channel the free-spirited Illinois volunteer effort into tangible results.”

This is where the 1st seeds were planted.
